Did you know that the plume of feathers on a quail’s head is called a topknot? When I first moved to the Southern Okanagan, I couldn’t for the life of me identify the bird call I was hearing everywhere until a local explained that it was the quails. Their call sounds like a high pitched “be careful, be careful, be careful!”.
